Tegan Molloy

My name is Tegan Molloy and I am 21 years old. I live in a small town by the name of Jindabyne; the base of the New South Wales ski resorts. I soon began swapping my skis for pedals as summer turned my slopes into the longest downhill track in Australia. I started mountain biking for school sport, and five years later - in 2013 - I exchanged the local trails for the world stage.

Interview

Favourite riding location: My favourite international destination to ride would definitely have to be Whistler, Canada. I was lucky enough to travel there in 2012 with my dad for Crankworx, loved it, and have yet to find another place that takes the cake. Within Australia though, Thredbo Mountain Bike Park is my favourite place to ride. Home to the longest track in the country and a killer alpine environment on home soil, it's a given.

Most memorable career moment: My most memorable moment so far would have to be at the 2014 World Championships in Norway, standing on top of the podium with my family and the Aussie junior team out in the crowd. That was a pretty surreal moment. One that I will never forget.

First bike ridden: My first proper mountain bike was a Giant Rincon hard tail. My first DH bike was a Kona Stinky, I use to ride it at every opportunity I had.

How did you start riding MTB: I started mountain biking for school sport, every Friday afternoon, rain, hail or shine we use to ride around the trails of Jindabyne and I absolutely loved it. Later that summer I asked Dad if we could try the downhill track up at Thredbo, I did it twice that season and then for Christmas I received my first DH bike a Kona Stinky, form there this epic journey of racing bikes around the world began.

Hobbies: Away from riding, I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family as well as being a part-time disc golf pro on the local course. In winter, if I'm not overseas racing, you can find me on the slopes.

Favourite Riders: There are so many riders that I look up to! Tracy Hannah and Jill Kintner are definitely some of my favourite female riders. It's crazy to think just a few years ago I was idolising these women with their posters plastered on my walls and now I'm racing against them! Mik Hannah has also always been an inspiration of mine and he's always wiling to offer a much appreciated helping hand when needed, both on and off the track.
