Interview

How long have you been riding and how did you get started?
Bicycles started as a form of transportation to and from school for me. My competitiveness came from skateboarding. I skated until I was 19 and began mountain biking just as a fun activity but decided I wanted to compete somehow. I became pro in 1994 and have been having the time of my life ever since. Thank you Mr. Bicycle.

What keeps you motivated and pushes you to progress as an athlete?
The morning motivates me. The fear of letting myself down and not following my dreams pushes me to progress as an athlete.

What is your proudest moment as a professional athlete and what are your goals for next season?
Coming in second at the kamikaze downhill in 1996 at Mammoth Mountain because that was the epicenter of mountain bike racing at the time. It was one of the fastest races I have been in. Also, doing a 360 over the 40ft finish line tabletop at the Mammoth dual slalom event in 1999 with thousands of people cheering after I stuck it perfectly. The kicker was that I hadn't done a 360 for over a year and to do it that big felt pretty good. My goals for next season are to win a downhill title, continue to progress my dirt jumping, Skate Park and street riding skills and to show the world how versatile mountain bikes are.

What motivated you to sign with Fox and what do you think you can contribute to Fox as a company?
When I had a choice, I chose Fox gear throughout my riding career. It was a no-brainer to sign with Fox and run the ALLRIDE TOUR because they are the best. Fox Racing has an image that is hard to beat and I am honored to be a part of their program again. Fox is a company who listens to riders, cares about their athletes, and strives to be the best. I am stoked to be with them because they are a brand I want to wear, ride in and promote.

Any other comments or important factoids you'd like to share?
I am stoked to have two of the best teammates around. My riding will progress even more riding with Aaron Chase and Jeff Lenosky. They are great guys and great riders. We will tear it up together!!! I am constantly drawing and refining bike frames, seats, tires, etc. I am not scared of much. I like to draw flowers, bikes, ramps and jumps. I laugh at the crocodile hunter because animals are so predictable! It's not hard to catch a snake!! I wanted to be a herpetologist growing up; I know a lot about snakes. I will 360 anything. I can drive a car on two wheels. I did my first back flip, tail whip and truck driver back in 1992. I learned how to Ollie in 1981. I dropped into my first pool 1982.
