Over the weekend the 2014 NSSA West Coast Championships took place in Huntington Beach, CA. The Westerns is an event in which all of California's best amateurs come out to compete against each other. The 4 day event scored 4-6 ft epic conditions at Huntington Beach Pier. Goofy footed Team riders Gunner Day, Braden Jones, and Nolan Rapoza made some tough heats with fast surfing and a display of airs in every heat.

Braden Jones from Pismo received 4th place in the Explorer Juniors which is one of his best results to date. Gunner Day was a finalist in the Jr. Airshow with a Huge air reverse that received an 8.33 and had the entire beach cheer. In the main event Gunner finished with a semi-final result in the Open Juniors.
All eyes were on Nolan Rapoza throughout the event. Nolan received NSSA Performer of the day on day 2 of competition with 4 heat wins and the highest scoring single air of the day an 8.67. On the Final day Nolan found himself in highly contested finals in both the Open Juniors and the Open Men's. In both finals Nolan came from behind and got into the lead with a minute remaining and unfortunately got edged out in the last 30 seconds receiving 2nd place in both the Open Men's and Open Juniors final. All these 3 surfers will be carrying there momentum into the nationals shortly.
